Wages, Incentives & Contractors

The barcode stations in the workshop provide us with information on Attendance, what tasks were performed, as well as Non-Productive activity such as Booth Maintenance, and so on. The simple act of scanning onto a task, and then scanning off when completed, provides us with volumes of information.

Using this information, we provide a multitude of incentive based pays, which benefit both you as well as the worker. The right incentive scheme can have a profound impact on the throughput of your workshop.

The way in which we incentivise staff means that the more money your workers take home at the end of the week, the more money you take home at the end of the week. The change in culture that an incentive scheme has on your workshop has to be seen to be believed. Workers paid on incentives are fully aware that the more work they complete, the more they get paid. Workers hungry for high levels of pay, will be putting the pressure on you for more work – not to mention highlighting items that are missing from quotes, and pushing you to authorize any additional found work as quickly as possible. Suddenly, you have a workshop full of technicians trying their best to get through the work as quickly as possible, as well as aid your estimators in finding more damage that needs to be repaired, but was never quoted.

As for contractors, this is where the information from the barcode scanners starts to become quite interesting. A contractor is defined as any worker that receives a fixed percentage of revenue for performing a task. Without WebTRIM, this means that a contractor will present you with an Invoice with what work was performed, the revenue associated with that work, and a fee. There are several problems with this scenario.
  • How do you verify that the work listed was actually performed?
  • Did the contractor get one of your techs to help, such as masking up the vehicle?
  • Has the contractor removed additional items such as booth allowance and environmental levies from the revenue figures?
  • What happens when a tech is asked to finish a contractor’s work?
  • Does the revenue allow for the additional work that was refused by the insurer?
As for any process, this could be performed manually, but the time involved in getting this accurate is often well beyond the time available to verify contractor invoices. This is not to mention the arguments over whether the work was actually performed, and what portion was done by one of your techs!

WebTRIM provides you with a concise report, listing each task performed, the revenue associated with it, and the total payment. You only have to look at this report, and compare it with the invoice received and you can be confident that it is accurate. Items such as Booth Allowance, and so on, are automatically removed – there is no reliance on human intervention. Not only this, but by splitting up the processes – you can have your Paint Contractors work in with your other Painters. Your painters can Prime, Prep and Polish the vehicle, allowing the contractor to focus solely on what they do best – applying the top-coat. The savings of both working in with your existing painters, as well as accurate payments adds up very quickly.

WebTRIM provides multiple types of incentives for all levels of staff, as well as wage-based pay slips for attendance-only employees. You can have specific staff on one type of incentive, others on attendance wages, and others on alternative incentive systems if you choose – there are no limits to the combinations available.
